"American Pie" "Vincent" |
American Pie is the second studio album by Don McLean, released on 24 October 1971. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200, containing the chart-topping singles "American Pie" and "Vincent".
Recorded in May and June of 1971 at The Record Plant in New York City,[2] the original 1971 LP is dedicated to Buddy Holly,[3] and was reissued in 1980 minus the track "Sister Fatima".
Background:
The title track contains references to the death of Buddy Holly (McLean being a 13-year-old paper-boy at the time[6]). The phrase "The Day the Music Died" was coined by McLean on this song, and has now become an unofficial name for the event.
The third track and second single "Vincent" concerns the Dutch post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh, who struggled for fame while he was alive and eventually killed himself.
In one version of the story, the track "Empty Chairs" inspired Lori Lieberman to write the poem upon which the song "Killing Me Softly" is based.
"The Grave", originally a protest song against the Vietnam War, was covered by Wham! member George Michael in protest against the Iraq War in 2003.

Lyrics: Empty Chairs
I feel the trembling tingle of a sleepless night
Creep through my fingers and the moon is bright
Beams of blue come flickering through my window pane
Like gypsy moths that dance around a candle flame
And I wonder if you know
That I never understood
That although you said you'd go
Until you did I never thought you would
Moonlight used to bathe the contours of your face
While chestnut hair fell all around the pillow case
And the fragrance of your flowers rest beneath my head
A sympathy bouquet left with the love that's dead
And I wonder if you know
That I never understood
That although you said you'd go
Until you did I never thought you would
Never thought the words you said were true
Never thought you said just what you meant
Never knew how much I needed you
Never thought you'd leave, until you went
Morning comes and morning goes with no regret
And evening brings the memories I can't forget
Empty rooms that echo as I climb the stairs
And empty clothes that drape and fall on empty chairs
And I wonder if you know
That I never understood
That although you said you'd go
Until you did I never thought you would

Night and Day is Joe Jackson's fifth album, released in June 1982.[1] The title is from a Cole Porter song, and the album reflects a transition to a more sophisticated level of songwriting.
The album pays tribute to the wit and style of Cole Porter (and indirectly to New York).[1] This was Jackson's only studio album to reach the Top 5 in both the UK and U.S.[1] selling over one million copies, earning gold disc status.[1] The track "Real Men" pointed obliquely to the city's early 1980s gay culture.[4] A&M put considerable promotional muscle behind the album, and the resultant single "Steppin' Out" became a multi-format hit, eventually earning Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male.[5] The album also spawned a second Top 20 U.S. hit single in "Breaking Us in Two".[5] Jackson finished his Night and Day touring in May 1983.[5] "Breaking Us in Two" was covered by Mandy Moore on her 2003 album Coverage.
"Steppin' Out" was a Top 10 in both the UK and the U.S. (UK #6, U.S. #6). "Breaking Us in Two" was a Top 20 hit in the U.S. (#18), but charted lower in the UK (#59).[1][6] This was a rare occurrence in which one of his singles charted higher in the U.S. than the UK.

Lyrics: Breaking Us in Two
Don't you feel like trying something new
Don't you feel like breaking out or breaking us in two
You don't do the things that I do
You want to do the things I can't do
Always something breaking us in two
You and I could never live alone
But don't you feel like breaking out
Just one day on your own
Why does what I'm saying hurt you
I didn't say that we were through
Always something breaking us in two
They say two hearts should beat as one for us
We'll fight it out to see it through
I say that you won't bee too much fun for us
Though it's oh so nice to get advice it's oh so hard to do
Could we be much closer if we tried
We could stay at home and stare into each other's eyes
Maybe we could last an hour
Maybe then we'd see right through
Always something breaking us in two

"Tribute" is the first single of Tenacious D's self-titled debut album. It was released July 16, 2002. "Tribute" was the most requested video on Kerrang! TV in 2002. The song is a tribute to what Gass and Black refer to as "The Greatest Song in the World" (often confused as the song's title),[1][2] which Tenacious D themselves came up with, but have since forgotten.[3] It was later released as a downloadable track for the video game Rock Band.
History:
Tribute was the first song Black and Gass played live as Tenacious D.[4] The song, like many other songs that were recorded on Tenacious D, was originally played on the TV series.[5] During earlier performances of this song Kyle Gass played the opening to "Stairway to Heaven".[6] The two songs are both in A minor and have very similar chord progressions, and critics have said the songs sound alike.[1][7][8] A slightly different version of the song first appeared on the band's TV show on HBO.
Synopsis:
The song chronicles the band members' encounter with a demon who demands the duo play "the best song in the world" or have their souls eaten. Having nothing to lose from trying, they "play the first thing that came to our heads", and it "Just so happened to be / The best song in the world."
Given the "Stairway to Heaven" interlude in the original TV series version, it might be suggesting the best song in the world is indeed that song, but the lyrics make clear that the song Tenacious D is playing sounds nothing like the song they came up with to please the demon (specifically, "This is not / The greatest song in the world, no / This is just a tribute"). However, since the following lyrics are "Couldn't remember / The Greatest Song in the World, no, no /" it's possible that the best song was, in fact, "Stairway to Heaven" and they couldn't remember that it was what they played.
In an interview the band claimed that the inspiration from the song came after Jack Black played Metallica's "One" for Kyle Gass, describing it as "the best song in the world",[9][10] leading to a failed attempt to themselves write an even better song, and a discussion of the meaninglessness of labeling any song that way. "Tribute" was written to make the claim that the greatest song in the world had, in fact, been theirs but they had forgotten it, as a paean to the impossibility of reaching musical perfection.
In Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, it is implied that the climax of the movie, a rock-off challenge between Satan and Tenacious D told through the song "Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown)", is indeed the incident chronicled in "Tribute", and that the portion of "Beelzeboss" performed by Tenacious D is the song receiving tribute. After defeating Satan, Jack and Kyle recall the incident once more, describing it as, "the greatest song in the world". Unfortunately, they are unable to remember how it went. Also in the song Beelzeboss, they mention that they know the demon's weakness, referred to as their "rocket sauce", which is what they use in their HBO television series to defeat the demon. However, unlike the demon in the television episode, Satan says they are "Fuckin' lame" and tries to take Kyle Gass to hell after all, while the demon asks if they are angels. However, considering that they do not remember the song, they may have forgotten this as well. This was confirmed in a commentary with Jack Black for the movie.
Music video:
Jack Black and Kyle Gass in "Tribute" video.
The music video for "Tribute", directed and edited by Liam Lynch, features Jack Black and Kyle Gass, in a cheap shopping mall karaoke booth, rewired to record their tribute to their encounter with a demon and the song they sang for him, which saved their lives.
The video cuts between footage of the pair walking down the "long, lonesome road" and the encounter with the demon played by Dave Grohl. The demon also performs the electric guitar solo in the music video. After the solo, Jack Black jumps out of the booth and starts shouting the lyrics at passers-by and dancing flamboyantly. Passersby include cameos from Lynch and Ben Stiller. A policeman, played by Jason Reed, takes Black and Gass away. At the end an old lady, played by Linda Porter, picks up the now-recorded CD and cackles, her eyes turning red.
Although the video had huge success on UK television - readers of Kerrang! magazine voted for their Top 10 rock videos with "Tribute" coming fifth[11] - the song was never actually released there as a single. "Tribute" was nominated for two Music Video Production Association Awards: "Alternative Video of the Year" and "Directorial Debut of the Year".[12] In addition, it was a nominee for best video in the 2002 Kerrang! Awards.[13]
Reception:
Some critics described the plot of the song as being similar to the song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band.
Lyrics: Tribute
[Spoken]
This is the greatest and best song in the world... Tribute.
Long time ago me and my brother Kyle here,
we was hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road.
All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon... in the middle... of the road.
And he said:
[Sung]
"Play the best song in the world, or I'll eat your soul." (soul)
[Spoken]
Well me and Kyle, we looked at each other,
and we each said... "Okay."
[Sung]
And we played the first thing that came to our heads,
Just so happened to be,
The Best Song in the World, it was The Best Song in the World.
Look into my eyes and it's easy to see
One and one make two, two and one make three,
It was destiny.
Once every hundred-thousand years or so,
When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow
And the grass doth grow...
Needless to say, the beast was stunned.
Whip-crack went his Whoopy tail,
And the beast was done.
He asked us: "(snort) Be you angels?"
And we said, "Nay. We are but men."
Rock!
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh-ah-ah,
Ohhh, whoah, ah-whoah-oh!
This is not The Greatest Song in the World, no.
This is just a tribute.
Couldn't remember The Greatest Song in the World, no, no.
This is a tribute, oh, to The Greatest Song in the World,
All right! It was The Greatest Song in the World,
All right! It was the best muthafuckin' song the greatest song in the world.
[2-part skat]
[Spoken]
And the peculiar thing is this my friends:
the song we sang on that fateful night it didn't actually sound
anything like this song.
[Sung]
This is just a tribute! You gotta believe it!
And I wish you were there! Just a matter of opinion.
Ah, fuck! Good God, God lovin',
So surprised to find you can't stop it.
[Skat]
All right! All right!

"Woman in Chains" is a hit song by the British band Tears for Fears, released as the second single from their 1989 album The Seeds of Love.
The single reached the Top 40 in the UK, United States, Australia, Ireland, Italy and New Zealand, and was a Top 20 hit in Canada, France, the Netherlands and in Poland (where it was particularly successful, reaching n°5[1]). The studio cut features Phil Collins on drums, and is also notable for guest vocals from female singer Oleta Adams, who would later go on to achieve a successful solo career.
The song was re-released in 1992 (with a different B-side and now credited to "Tears For Fears featuring Oleta Adams") in order to capitalise on the recent solo success of Oleta Adams and to promote the Tears for Fears Greatest Hits compilation Tears Roll Down (Greatest Hits 82-92), this time reaching #57 in the UK.
Content:
"Woman in Chains" was recorded as a duet and Orzabal explained the impetus for the lyric to Melody Maker: "I was reading some feminist literature at the time and I discovered that there are societies in the world still in existence today that are non-patriarchal. They don't have the man at the top and the women at the bottom. They're matricentric - they have the woman at the centre and these societies are a lot less violent, a lot less greedy and there's generally less animosity... but the song is also about how men traditionally play down the feminine side of their characters and how both men and women suffer for it.... I think men in a patriarchal society are sold down the river a bit - okay, maybe we're told that we're in control but there are also a hell of a lot of things that we miss out on, which women are allowed to be".
The song appeared briefly in an early episode of Baywatch.
Music video:
The video, directed by Andy Morahan, was filmed in black and white and focuses on the abusive relationship between a man (a boxer) and a woman (a pole-dancer, played by Angela Alvarado) and is interspersed with shots of the band and guest vocalist Oleta Adams performing the song. The video does not however feature guest drummer Phil Collins. Chris Hughes mimes in the video.
Lyrics: Tears for Fears feat. Oleta Adams - Woman In Chains - Live California
You better love loving and you better behave
You better love loving and you better behave
Woman in chains, woman in chains
Calls her man the great white hope
Says she's fine, she'll always cope, ooh
Woman in chains, woman in chains
Well, I feel lying and waiting is a poor man's deal (A poor man's deal)
And I feel hopelessly weighed down by your eyes of steel
(Your eyes of steel)
Well, It's a world gone crazy keeps woman in chains, woh woh woh
Woman in chains, woman in chains
Trades her soul as skin and bones
(You better love loving and you better behave)
Sells the only thing she owns
(You better love loving and you better behave) ooh ooh
Woman in chains (the sun and the moon), woman in chains
Men of stone, men of stone, hey baby, no no no, ooh
Well, I feel deep in your heart there are wounds time can't heal
(The time can't heal)
And I feel somebody somewhere is trying to breathe
Well, you know what I mean
It's a world gone crazy keeps woman in chains
It's under my skin but out of my hands
I'll tear it apart (somebody somewhere is trying)
But I won't understand (to breathe)
I will not accept the greatness of man
It's a world gone crazy keeps woman in chains
Gone crazy keeps woman in chains
So free her, so free her, so free her
So free her, so free her (the sun and the moon)
So free (the wind and the rain) her, so free her
So free her, so free her, so free her, so free her
So free her, so free her (the sun and the moon)
So free (the wind and the rain) her, so free her

2.3. Steve Hackett - Four Winds – East

No Good (Start the Dance) is de achtste single uitgegeven door The Prodigy op 16 mei 1994.
De sample "You're no good for me, I don't need nobody" is afkomstig van Kelly Charles, uit het nummer "You're No Good For Me" (1987, London Records LONX153).
Music for the Jilted Generation is een album van de Britse dancegroep The Prodigy.
Van het album komen de singles Voodoo People, Poison, No Good (Start the Dance) en One Love.
Music for the Jilted generation werd de definitieve doorbraak van The Prodigy.

Lyrics: Fragile
If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence
and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star
Like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star
Like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
How fragile we are

"The Unforgiven" is a power ballad by American heavy metal band Metallica. It was released as the second single from their eponymous fifth album Metallica. Though one of the slower tracks on the album, its chord progression is distinctly one of the heavier. The song deals with the theme of the struggle of the individual against the efforts of those who would subjugate him.
The song has since spawned two sequels (both in name proper as well as thematically), in the form of "The Unforgiven II", from the album ReLoad, and "The Unforgiven III", from the album Death Magnetic.
History
Lars Ulrich explained that the band wanted to try something new with the idea of a ballad - instead of the standard melodic verse and heavy chorus (as evidenced on their previous ballads "Fade to Black", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and "One"), the band opted to reverse the dynamic, with heavy, distorted verses and a softer, melodic chorus, played with classical guitars. The opening section contains percussive instruments performed by Ulrich, and also a small amount of keyboards.
The horn intro was essentially taken from The Unforgiven (a Western movie) and then reversed so its source would be hidden, as Hetfield later explained on Classic Albums: Metallica - Metallica.
Live performances
"The Unforgiven" was played live as part of Metallica's Nowhere Else to Roam world tour which lasted from 1991–1993, in support of the Black Album. It was played again on the Madly in Anger with the World world tour in 2003–2004 and the Escape from the Studio '06 tour. It has most been played in the band's "World Magnetic" tour.
The live version of "Unforgiven" includes a second solo near the end of the song, something the original recording did not have.
Music video
An accompanying video was released for the song. The black and white video is themed around a boy who spends his life living in captivity inside a small, windowless room made entirely of stone. As the video progresses he ages into an adult and then an old man. He spends his entire life carving into the stone to create a window while occasionally grasping his one possession: a locket. It is inferred that another captive lives on the other side of the stone room. The video ends with the old man finally creating a window, through which he deposits his possession. He blocks off the tunnel through which he crawled to access the cell using the square of stone he created when he made the window, then lies down to die. A 11:33, "theatrical" version of the video exists, featuring several minutes of introductory scenes which precede the timeline of the main portion of the video. This version was featured on The Videos 1989-2004, the band's 2006 music video compilation.
Lyrics: Metallica - The Unforgiven
New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules
With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away-eay
Chorus:
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
They dedicate their lives
To RUNNING all of his
He tries to please THEM all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
(instrumental)
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
whoa, whoa
Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
Never Free
Never Me
So I dub thee UNFORGIVEN
You labeled me
I'll label you

Lyrics: Supernatural Superserious
Everybody here
Comes from somewhere
But they would just as soon forget
In disguise
At the summer camp where you volunteered
No one saw your face, no one saw your fear
If that apparition had just appeared
Took you up and away from this space and sheer humiliation
Of your teenage station
Nobody cares
No one remembers and nobody cares
There you cried and you cried
You still lie, you still lie
Ah, you cried and you cried and you cried and you cried
If you call out 'safe' then I'll stop right away
If the premise buckles and the ropes starts to shake
The details small, but the story's the same
You don't have to explain
You don't have to explain humiliation
Of your teenage station
Yeah you cried and you cried
You still lie, you still lie
Ah, you cried and you cried and you cried and
You realize your fantasies are
Dressed up in travesties
Enjoy yourself with no regrets, ah ah
Everybody here
Comes from somewhere
But they would just as soon forget
In disguise
There you cried and you cried
You still lie, you still lie
Yeah you cried and you cried and you cried and you cried
Now there's nothing dark and there's nothing weird
Don't be afraid, I will hold you near
From the seance where you first portrayed
An open heart on a darkened stage
Celebration
Of your teenage station
Sad experience-ly, delirious
Supernatural superserious
Bad experience-ly, delirious
Supernatural superserious
Well

"Lightning Crashes" is a song by the rock band Live, from their 1994 album, Throwing Copper.
The track wasn't released as a single in the US, but received enough radio airplay to peak at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart in 1995. The song also topped the Billboard Album Rock Tracks (10 weeks) and Hot Modern Rock Tracks (9 weeks) charts.[1][2] The song was also a top 40 hit in the UK,[3] where the single was released in several different formats.
Song meaning:
Lead singer Ed Kowalczyk said, "I wrote 'Lightning Crashes' on an acoustic guitar in my brother's bedroom shortly before I had moved out of my parents' house and gotten my first place of my own." Kowalczyk says that the video for "Lightning Crashes" has caused misinterpretations of the song's intent.
While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. Nobody's dying in the act of childbirth, as some viewers think. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life.[citation needed]
New York magazine described the band as "deeply mystical" and claimed that the song was, "The story of a...connection between an old lady dying and a new mother at the moment of giving birth."[4]
Lyrics: Live - Lightning Crashes
Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
Her placenta falls to the floor
The angel opens her eyes
The confusion sets in
Before the doctor can even close the door
Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
Her intentions fall to the floor
The angel closes her eyes
The confusion that was hers
Belongs now, to the baby down the hall
Oh, now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it
Lightning crashes, a new mother cries
This moment she's been waiting for
The angel opens her eyes
Pale blue colored iris, presents the circle
And puts the glory out to hide, hide
Oh, now feel it comin' back again
Like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
Forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it

Musici:
- Steve Harley – zang
- Jean-Paul Crocker – gitaar, mandoline, elektrische viool
- Paul Jeffreys – basgitaar (Fender)
- Milton Reame-James – synthesizers
Lyrics: Sebastian
Radiate simply the candle is burning so low for me
Generate me limply can't seem to place your name cherie
To rearrange all these thoughts in a moment is suicide
Come to a strange place we'll talk over old times we never smile
Somebody called me Sebastian
Somebody called me Sebastian
Work out a rhyme - toss me the time - lay me you're mine
We all know, oh yeah
Your Persian eyes sparkle your lips ruby blue never speak a sound
And you oh so gay with Parisian demands you can run around
Your view of society screws up my mind like you'll never know
Lead me away come inside see my mind in kaleidoscope
Somebody called me Sebastian
Somebody called me Sebastian
Mangle my mind - love me sublime - do it in style
We all know, oh yeah
You're not gonna run babe we only just begun babe to compromise
Slagged in a Bowery saloon love's a story the serialize
Pale angel face your eyeshadow the glitter is outasight
No courtesan could begin to decipher your beam of light
Somebody called me Sebastian
Somebody called me Sebastian
Dance on my heart - laugh swoop and dart - la-di-di-da
Now we all know you, yeah

B-kant was Achter elke deur.
Lyrics: Klein Orkest: Over De Muur songtekst

Lyrics: Ralph McTell - The Streets of London
Have you seen the old man
In the closed down market
Kicking up the papers with his worn out shoes
In his eyes you see no pride
Hands held loosely at his side
Yesterday's paper, telling yesterday's news
So how can you tell me you're lonely
And say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something
To make you change your mind
Have you seen the old girl
Who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags
She's no time for talking
She just keeps right on walking
Carrying her home in two carrier bags
So how can you tell me you're lonely
And say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something
To make you change your mind
In the old night cafe at a quarter past eleven
The same old man sitting there on his own
Looking at the world over the rim of his teacup
Each tea lasts an hour, and he wanders home alone
So how can you tell me that you're lonely
And say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something
To make you change your mind
Have you seen the old man
Outside the seaman's mission
Memory fading with the minor ribands that he wears
In our city winter the rain cries little pity
For one more forgotten hero
And a world which doesn't care
So how can you tell me you're lonely
And say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something
To make you change your mind

Het nummer is Adele's grootste commerciële succes in Nederland, waarmee het Make You Feel My Love versloeg.
Lyrics: Adele - Rolling In The Deep
There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch
It’s bringing me out the dark
Finally, I can see you crystal clear
Go ahead and sell me out
And I’ll lay your shit bare
See how I leave with every piece of you
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do
There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch
And it's bringing me out the dark
The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love they leave me breathless
I can’t help feeling
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
But you played it
To the beat
Baby, I have no story to be told
But I’ve heard one of you
And I’m gonna make your head burn
Think of me in the depths of your despair
Making a home down there
It reminds you of the home we shared
The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love they leave me breathless
I can’t help feeling
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
But you played it
To the beat
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
But you played it
To the beat
Throw your soul through every open door
Count your blessings to find what you look for
Turned my sorrow into treasured gold
You pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow
We could have had it all
We could have had it all
It all, it all, it all
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
But you played it
To the beat
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart inside of your hand
But you played it
You played, you played, you played it, to the beat
6.2. Animals - The House Of The Rising Sun
Betekenis:

Lyrics: The House Of The Rising Sun
There is a house in New Orleans
They called the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gambling man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the house of the rising sun
Well I got one foot on the platform
*The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well there's a house in New Orleans
They called the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin for many a poor boy
*And God I know I'm one

In 1979 formeert hij The Scene.

Lyrics: Scene - Iedereen Is Van De Wereld
Dit is voor de misfits die je
her en der alleen ziet staan.
Ooh yeah yeah yeah
Rood zwart, wit geel, jong oud, man of vrouw

"Kashmir" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin from their sixth album Physical Graffiti, released in 1975. It was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (with contributions from John Bonham) over a period of three years, with lyrics dating to 1973. The song became a concert staple, being performed by the band at almost every concert since its release. Page and Plant released a longer live version, recorded with an Egyptian/Moroccan orchestra, on No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded (1994) and continued to perform the tune with an orchestra on their 1995 tour.
Overview:
The song runs for 8:28,[1] a length that radio stations usually consider too long to play. However, upon its release radio stations had no problem playing "Kashmir", especially after seeing "Stairway to Heaven", which was almost as long, do so well. (Original LP releases of Physical Graffiti incorrectly list the song's length as 9:41.)
Music:
The song's signature chord progression, which first appeared on Page's home-studio work tapes, was an extension of a guitar-cycle that Page had been working on for years. This was the same cycle that produced "Black Mountain Side", "White Summer" and the unreleased track, "Swan-song". Because bass player and keyboardist John Paul Jones had been late for the recording sessions, Page used the time to work on the riff with drummer John Bonham. The two demoed it late in 1973. Plant later added the middle section and in early 1974 Jones added the string parts.[2][3]
Page adopted an alternative guitar tuning: the strings are tuned to 'Open Dsus4' or DADGAD. Bonham's drums featured a phasing effect courtesy of an Eventide Instant Phaser PS-101 supplied by engineer Ron Nevison.[4] Plant stated that Bonham's drumming is the key to the song: "It was what he didn't do that made it work".[2] Sections of the song utilize a polymeter effect, with the drums and lyrics in quadruple meter while the melodic instruments play a triple meter rhythmic pattern.[5][6]
The song includes many distinctive musical patterns of classical Moroccan, Indian and Middle Eastern music. Page explained, "I had a sitar for some time and I was interested in modal tunings and Arabic stuff. It started off with a riff and then employed Eastern lines underneath."[7]
Orchestral brass and strings with electric guitar and mellotron strings appear in the song. This is one of the few Led Zeppelin songs to use outside musicians. Session players were brought in for the string and horn sections.[3] According to Jones, "the secret of successful keyboard string parts is to play only the parts that a real string section would play. That is, one line for the First Violins, one line for Second Violins, one for Violas, one for Cellos, one for Basses. Some divided parts [two or more notes to a line] are allowed, but keep them to a minimum. Think melodically".[8]
Lyrics:
The lyrics were written by Plant in 1973 immediately after Led Zeppelin's 1973 US Tour, in an area he called "the waste lands"[7] of Southern Morocco, while driving from Goulimine to Tantan in the Sahara Desert.[2][3] This was despite the fact that the song is named for Kashmir, a region in the northwestern part of the Himalayas.[9] As Plant explained to rock journalist Cameron Crowe:
The whole inspiration came from the fact that the road went on and on and on. It was a single-track road which neatly cut through the desert. Two miles to the East and West were ridges of sandrock. It basically looked like you were driving down a channel, this dilapidated road, and there was seemingly no end to it. 'Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dreams...' It's one of my favourites...that, 'All My Love' and 'In the Light' and two or three others really were the finest moments. But 'Kashmir' in particular. It was so positive, lyrically.[2]
Plant also commented on the challenges he faced in writing lyrics for such a complex piece of music:
It was an amazing piece of music to write to, and an incredible challenge for me ... Because of the time signature, the whole deal of the song is… not grandiose, but powerful: it required some kind of epithet, or abstract lyrical setting about the whole idea of life being an adventure and being a series of illuminated moments. But everything is not what you see. It was quite a task, ’cause I couldn’t sing it. It was like the song was bigger than me. It’s true: I was petrified, it’s true. It was painful; I was virtually in tears.[10]
In an interview he gave to William S. Burroughs in 1975, Page mentioned that at the time the song was composed, none of the band members had ever been to Kashmir.[11]
Live performances:
"Kashmir" was played live at almost every Led Zeppelin concert from its debut in 1975. One live version, from Led Zeppelin's performance at Knebworth in 1979, is featured on disc 2 of the Led Zeppelin DVD. This performance came from the band's first show at the venue on 4 August. The surviving members also performed the song at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert in 1988. It was again performed at Led Zeppelin's reunion show at the The O2, London on 10 December 2007 and later released on Celebration Day.
When the band performed the song live, Robert Plant would switch the last verse ("Oh father of the four winds, fill my sails..") with the original second verse ("With talk and song of tongues of lifting grace...") after singing the first verse normally. Plant, known generally for improvisation while performing live, would ad lib during live performances of "Kashmir". He would add in "sweet mama", "slowly dyin'", "now just a minute", "sweet darlin'", and he would stutter the words "baby" and "mama". He would also end that section with "there's no denyin'" and "Woman, talkin' to ya!"
Page and Plant recorded another live version of "Kashmir" in 1994, released on their album No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded. For this arrangement, they added an orchestra and Egyptian musicians.
Accolades:
All four members of Led Zeppelin have agreed that "Kashmir" is one of their best musical achievements.[12] John Paul Jones suggested that it showcases all of the elements that made up the Led Zeppelin sound.[2] Plant has stated that "Kashmir" is the "definitive Led Zeppelin song",[13] and that it "was one of my favourite [Led] Zeppelin tracks because it possessed all the latent energy and power that wasn't heavy metal. It was something else. It was the pride of Led Zeppelin."[7] During a television interview in January 2008, he also named "Kashmir" as his first choice of all Led Zeppelin songs that he would perform, commenting "I'm most proud of that one".[14] Page has indicated he thinks that the song is one of the band's best compositions.[15]
Led Zeppelin expert Dave Lewis describes "Kashmir" as:
Unquestionably the most startling and impressive track on Physical Graffiti, and arguably the most progressive and original track that Led Zeppelin ever recorded. 'Kashmir' went a long way towards establishing their credibility with otherwise sceptical rock critics. Many would regard this track as the finest example of the sheer majesty of Zeppelin's special chemistry.[3]
Lyrics: Kashmir
Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear, oh, oh
Ooh, baby, I been flying low, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'
Oh, ooh, yes, I've been flying, mama ma, ain't no denyin', no denyin'
All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasteland
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear, ohh, whoaa
Whoaa, ohh
Ohh
When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay yeah
Ooh, yeah yeah, ooh, yeah yeah, when I'm down, yeah
Ooh, yeah yeah, ooh, yeah yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there
Let me take you there
Let me take you there

Met Selling England by the Pound (1973) was Genesis voor het eerst succesvol. Het album bracht de groep haar eerste hitsingle, "I Know What I Like". Strubbelingen tussen Gabriel en de rest van de groep tijdens de opname van het conceptalbum The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974) leidden uiteindelijk tot het vertrek van Gabriel in 1975.
Us is the sixth studio album (and ninth album overall) by British rock musician Peter Gabriel, originally released in 1992. It was remastered, with most of Gabriel's catalogue, in 2002. Singles taken from the album included "Digging in the Dirt", "Steam", "Blood of Eden" (an early version of the track was previously featured in the 1991 Wim Wenders film Until the End of the World), and "Kiss That Frog". Promotional singles included "Come Talk To Me" and "Secret World"
On this album Gabriel explored the pain of recent personal problems; his failed first marriage, his relationship with actress Rosanna Arquette, and the growing distance between him and his first daughter.
The album was supported by the "Secret World Live" tour, named after its ultimate track, "Secret World". The tour spawned a live album and a concert film. The album was also promoted through a first-of-its-kind interactive multimedia software released for Macintosh computers called Xplora1: Peter Gabriel's Secret World, which featured several music videos from the album.
Lyrics: Secret World
I stood in this unsheltered place
'Til I could see the face behind the face
All that had gone before had left no trace
Down by the railway siding
In our secret world we were colliding
In all the places we were hiding love
What was it we were thinking of?
So I watch you wash your hair
Underwater, unaware
And the plane flies through the air
Did you think you didn't have to choose it
I alone could win or lose it
In all the places we were hiding love
What was it we were thinking of?
In this house of make-believe
Divided in two, like Adam and Eve
You put out and I recieve
Did you think you didn't have to choose it
I alone could win or lose it
All the places we were hiding love
What was it we were thinking of?
Ah the wheel is turning, spinning 'round and 'round
And the house is crubling but the stairways stand
With no guilt and no shame, no sorrow or blame
Whatever it is, we are all the same
Breaking it up
Shaking it up
Making it up
In our secret world
Seeing things that were not there
On a wing on a prayer
In this state of disrepair
Did you think you didn't have to choose it
I alone could win or lose it
In all the places we were hiding love
What was it we were thinking of?
Shh, listen...
Breaking it up
Shaking it up
Making it up
In our secret world

Lyrics: Crime Of The Century
Now they're planning the crime of the century
Well what will it be?
Read all about their schemes and adventuring
It's well worth the fee
So roll up and see
How they rape the universe
How they've gone from bad to worse
Who are these men of lust, greed, and glory?
Rip off the masks and let's see.
But that's not right - oh no, what's the story?
There's you and there's me
That can't be right!!

Lyrics: Down & Dirty
I know you’ve been lyin' boy
Every single word you say
It’s the way your lips shake
When you’re
Getting down and dirty baby
Don’t you ask me how I know
And why it’s time for you to go
’Cause you should’ve known better
Before you were
Ge-ge-getting down and dirty baby
Oh
I know I ain’t supposed to cry
But I can’t keep it inside
Cheater, yeah!
Thinking you could get away
But you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with, heey
All the love we had is gone
You gave it to the other ones
You’re neve gonna find a love like mine
The way I’m
Getting down and dirty baby
Now you’re crying on my phone
You should’ve done that months ago
And now it’s time for me to
Ge-ge-getting down and dirty baby
Oh
I know I ain’t supposed to cry
But I can’t keep it inside
Cheater, yeah!
Thinking you could get away
But you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with, heey
Cheater, yeah!
Thinking you could get away
But you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with, heey
No, you don't!
I let you buy just a little time
So I could find a way to say 'goodbye'
A little more time before I slam the door in your face
So tired of the heartache and the nights I lie, awake
I know I ain’t supposed to cry
But I can’t keep it inside
Cheater, yeah!
Thinking you could get away
But you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with, heey
Cheater, yeah!
Thinking you could get away
But you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with, oh
Cheater, yeah!
Cheater, yeah!
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
Cheater, yeah!
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
Cheater, yeah!
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
Cheater, yeah!
Goodbye, baby
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy
No, you don’t know who you’re dealin’ with dirty boy

Once Upon a Time in the West is a soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone, from the Once Upon a Time in the West western film of the same name directed by Sergio Leone, released in 1968. The film score sold about 10 million copies worldwide.
Once Upon a Time in the West is een film uit 1968 van Sergio Leone.

"The Pusher" is a rock song written by Hoyt Axton, made popular by the 1969 movie Easy Rider which used Steppenwolf's version to accompany the opening scenes of drug trafficking.
The lyrics of the song distinguish between a dealer in drugs such as marijuana—who "will sell you lots of sweet dreams"—and a pusher of hard drugs such as heroin—a "monster" who doesn't care "if you live or if you die".
Steppenwolf version:
The song was made popular when rock band Steppenwolf released a cover version of the song on their 1968 album Steppenwolf. When performing the song publicly in the late 1960s, the repeated lyric "God Damn" was often controversial, most notoriously in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where City officials attempted to force the band to use a euphemism (such as "Gosh darn") rather than the actual lyric. Though the band promised not to sing the line, at John Kay's urging, the audience obliged by loudly filling in the offensive words at the appropriate places in the song.[1]
Organist Goldy McJohn, who recorded the original Steppenwolf version, said the version that appears on Early Steppenwolf performed by "Sparrow" (pre-Steppenwolf moniker) in 1967 at the Matrix came about when singer John Kay and Jerry Edmonton were late for a performance:
Nick and Mars and me started that long version of the Pusher. John and Jerry's flight was late one night at the Avalon Ballroom, so we started and then we perfected it at the "Arc" in Sausalito on New Year's Eve in 1966.[2]
Lyrics: Steppenwolf - The Pusher
Steppenwolf by The Pusher
You know I've smoked a lot of grass
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin'
That my spirit could kill
You know, I've seen a lot of people walkin' 'round
With tombstones in their eyes
But the pusher don't care
Ah, if you live or if you die
God damn, The Pusher
God damn, I say The Pusher
I said God damn, God damn The Pusher man
You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With the love grass in his hand
Oh but the pusher is a monster
Good God, he's not a natural man
The dealer for a nickel
Lord, will sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah, but the pusher ruin your body
Lord, he'll leave your, he'll leave your mind to scream
God damn, The Pusher
God damn, God damn the Pusher
I said God damn, God, God damn The Pusher man
Well, now if I were the president of this land
You know, I'd declare total war on The Pusher man
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he'd run
Yes I'd kill him with my Bible and my razor and my gun
God damn The Pusher
Gad damn The Pusher

The recording in analog technology took place at the Compass Point Studios in Nassau on the island of New Providence, Bahamas. The album topped the French chart in its second week on the run. On 5 February 2009, the album was certified platinum by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP), denoting sales in excess of 200,000 copies in France.[3]
The song "Slow Slow (Run Run)" was released for radio promotion on 30 June 2008 and was released as first single from the album. "Lonely" was released as the follow-up.

Lyrics: Ayo - Better Days
People are telling me
To stay away from you
But I can't help myself
Just don’t know what to do
Even our kids they say
You won't change anyway
But I can't help myself
I just can't help myself
People are telling me
To keep away from you
But they would never understand
how much I feel for you
Even our kids they say
You want change anyway
But I can't help myself still believing
Better days , better days,
better days, better days [x2]
People are telling me
To stay away from you
But I can't help myself
Just don’t know what to do
Even our kids they say
You won't change anyway
But I can't help myself
I just can't help myself
People are telling me
To keep away from you
But they will never understand
how much I feel for you
Even our kids they say
You want change anyway
But I can't help myself still believing
Better days , better days,
better days, better days [x2]

Lyrics: Bløf - Zo Stil
Zo stil,
Zo stil,
Hoewel ik je nog iedere dag mis,
En waar je nu ook zijn mag,
Echt het is,
Me helder,

Mash

In Oranje
Kijk me lopen zeven sloten
Hoogste bergen andersom
Ik ben hoe dan ook gaan lopen
Ik zie wel waar ik kom
Diepe dalen mooie paden
Want kijk me lachen dan.
Hier loop ik nou....

"For 12" was featured as KCRW's "Today's Top Tune" on October 27, 2010.
Other Lives finished working on their latest album Tamer Animals in February 2011. The album was released on May 10th 2011 in the USA and August 29th 2011 in UK/Europe. The album was critically well-received, and Radiohead's Thom Yorke has released a remix of the title track.
In the summer of 2011, the band toured with S. Carey and The Rosebuds. Following a month of shows in the UK, the band joined Bon Iver in September in the USA and Canada and played at Iceland Airwaves festival. The band returned to the UK in October to support Chapel Club in London on October 18th. The band opened for Radiohead on the first leg of their 2012 North American tour in February and March, 2012, and also played 2012 Coachella Festival. [4]
In September 2011, Other Lives launched their Wirewax interactive website tameranimals.com which was built around the band's official video for "For 12" and allows users to access audio and visual content within the video.
On October 22, 2012, Other Lives' new album, Mind the Gap EP, was released. After touring with Radiohead, and headlining their own tour in 2012, they are on a touring break to work on a new album.
Lyrics: Other Lives - For 12
Oh I was in the dark age
Searching for the ones in my mind.
I'm so far away
But I had hit the ground runnin'.
Steady as you go, I don't mind.
I'm still here today.
Spouting hymns and buzzing rhymes
And forever talking when it ain't so kind.
But it feels like forever on the run.
When your mind turns to fiction.
And I had took the long way.
I was in the heat,
I don't mind, I'm so far away.
But it feels like forever on the run.
When your mind turns to fiction.
Nudging the ghost from the skull.
And a night without sleep.
Vibration comes first to the head and last to the feet.
Spouting hymns and buzzing rhymes
And forever talking when it ain't so kind.
But it feels like forever on the run.
When your mind turns to fiction.

Lyrics: Racoon - 2014
Time flies and it seems to me
The older ones get the history
I'll walk anywhere I like
Thanks for the fight
How kind of you
Bye-bye
She said: "I know where you will be tomorrow"
I said: "Well, that's quite bizarre,
'Cause I don't know where I'll go"
So, tell me where I'll be in 2014
The fields or maybe down in the canteen
Living the dream
Living the dream
Young girl and they seem to be
Much older than their given age, you see
There's less than meets the eye
My spirit's gone
Feel free to live
Bye-bye
She said: "I know where you will be tomorrow"
And I said: "That's quite bizarre,
'Cause I don't know where I will go"
So, tell me where I'll be in 2014
The fields or maybe down in the canteen
Living the dream, yeah
Living the dream
She said: "I know where you will be tomorrow"
And I said: "That's quite bizarre,
'Cause I don't know where I will go"
So, tell me where I'll be in 2014
The fields or maybe down in the canteen
Living the dream
Living the dream
